FCL supports Therapies Unite

FCL supports Therapies Unite

A generous donation of shipping services from shipping company FCL Global Forwarding has enabled two UK based charities to expand the services they can offer to disabled people living in the poorest areas of Mexico, where health care is costly.

Laura Brown, a Midlands based NHS physiotherapist, has been carrying out voluntary work in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the last four years, setting up her own independent project called Therapies Unite. Therapies Unite partnered with MeDiCT a UK based Charity (1118635) and together these charities dedicate their time and effort to improve the lives of children and adults with learning and physical disabilities in Mexico.

Thanks to FCL Global Forwarding and generous donations of equipment from International Aid Trust, the two charities are now able to launch their latest project by expanding the training and education of local professionals using the tools and equipment donated to be able to do their jobs effectively. The partnership between MeDiCT and Therapies Unite not only enables the development of rehabilitation services in Mexico for the disabled but it also forges links between centres, schools, clinics and individuals across the country and empowers Mexican healthcare professionals to develop and share their knowledge.

Founder of Therapies Unite Laura Brown explains: “The individuals and communities I am working with cannot afford even the most basic health care and physiotherapy. By providing this equipment in specialist centres we can make a real difference and enable Therapies Unite and MeDiCT to reach more people as well as educate and train skilled professionals over in Mexico. We are so grateful to FCL and International Aid trust for making this possible.”

The charities next exciting plan is to set up a Postural Management Centre in Puerto Vallarta, which will be named The Catrin Pickles Centre, in memory of a one of the first Therapies Unite volunteers, Catrin Pickles. This will enable each child or adult with severe and complex disabilities an individualised postural management plan and access to the right equipment.
